Target: build a squad, nail the number
Target is the simplest format Scoracle runs, and the one most leagues start with. Each member builds a squad of four real players before the season (or a chosen gameweek) kicks off. Pick your four, agree a target with your group, and watch the goals add up — no transfers, no weekly admin, just one decision that plays out over a season.
How it works
Every member picks exactly 4 players from the competition's player pool. Across the season (or from your league's start gameweek), you add up the total goals your four players score between them. Whoever gets closest to the agreed target — without going over — wins.
| Rule | Detail |
|---|---|
| Squad size | 4 players, fixed |
| Scoring | Total goals across all 4 players (assists don't count) |
| The target | Set once by whoever creates the league — any number you like |
| Going over | A "bust" — you're out of contention once your total passes the target |
| Eligibility | All 4 players must have scored at least 1 goal each to be in the running |
Who it suits
Target is a fire-and-forget format: pick your squad once, then check back whenever you like. It's the lowest-effort of Scoracle's five modes and the easiest to explain to a group that's never played a format like this before — "pick four players, get as close to a number as you can" takes about ten seconds to understand.
It works especially well for a one-off sweepstake at the start of a season, or as the format you run alongside something else for people who don't want a weekly commitment.
A worked example
Target set at 40. You pick four players who finish the season with 12, 9, 11, and 6 goals — a total of 38. You've reached 38 without busting, and since all four scored, you're eligible. Someone else picks four players who hit exactly 40 — a perfect score, and the win, since reaching the target exactly beats getting close but under.
